Things to Do in Las Vegas

what to do in las vegas this weekend

Looking for things to do in Las Vegas this weekend? Las Vegas is a travel destination that is near the top of bucket lists of Americans and non-Americans alike. It is the ultimate casino destination, but also encapsulates American culture, grandeur and excess.

It is a favourite for those with a love of poker and blackjack, as well as for bachelor and bachelorette parties. For many in the United States, a road trip to Las Vegas is a right of passage, while for those that live abroad the expedition may be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

When you arrive in Las Vegas, you’ll be in awe of its bright lights, tall buildings, and majestic fountains. So here is a handy guide to help you get the most of your stay.

Visit a Casino

Visiting Las Vegas without visiting a casino would be like visiting Italy and not eating a pizza, or visiting London without taking a photo of Big Ben. You are spoilt for choice in Vegas, with options that range from cheap and cheerful to the palatial opulence of the Venetian or the Bellagio.

If you have never visited a casino before, you may want to practice a little before you get there. There are many online casinos available that you can use to hone your blackjack skills or learn how to play roulette.

Many online casinos offer free bet or spin promotions to attract new customers, these are a great way to practice without having to wager your own money.

Some casino options include:

  • Caesars Palace: a favourite amongst sports betting fans thanks to its sportsbook offering spread over a 15,600 square foot area, featuring numerous screens showing the latest odds and live games.
  • Aria: one of the best casinos in Las Vegas if you want to play slots, thanks to its almost 2,000 slot machines. It boasts an exclusive high-limit slot room called SPIN that allows customers to wager up to $5,000 at a time.
    • Bellagio: one of the most famous casinos in Las Vegas, the Bellagio is a must if you love poker. Its poker room has 40 tables with a range of different poker options, including Omaha and Texas Hold ‘Em. A daily no-limit tournament takes place each day at 2pm, where you may find many poker pros competing.

  • Gold Nugget: a must if you love table games. It is also the place to go if you want to see new games being trialled or to play games outside by the pool.

See a Show

Aside from the casinos, Vegas is famous for its blockbuster lineup of shows.  The bigger casinos boast residencies of A-List talent like Penn & Teller, Celine Dion, Cirque Du Soleil, David Copperfield, and Diana Ross.

You can find an up to date list of acts on Vegas.com, or you can find details on the venue’s own websites. Some of the major venues include Caesars Palace, LINQ, Rio, the Venetian, and Luxor.

Stratosphere

Las Vegas is famous for its quirky attractions, one of the best being the Stratosphere Tower. This 1,149ft skyscraper features the “Top of the World” restaurant, offering its guests 360 degree views as it slowly rotates while they enjoy its “classic Las Vegas buffet”.

However, the real reason to head up to the top is the Sky Jump ride. If you’re brave enough, staff will strap you into a harness before you jump down, hurtling to the ground in a “controlled freefall”.

Las Vegas Sign

Whether you’re doing it “for the ‘Gram”, or just to make memories, taking your photo in front of the legendary Las Vegas sign is a must. You might have to wait though, as you won’t be the only tourist wanting to get a Vegas sign selfie.

Bellagio Fountains

Even if you didn’t know which hotel they belonged to, you will have definitely seen the Bellagio fountains. This is one of the most popular things to do for couples.

Located directly outside the hotel, these dancing fountains help create a barrier between the hotel and the busy Las Vegas strip. Make sure to also check them at night as the lighting makes for a whole different spectacle.

Las Vegas is a fantastic travel destination, packed with sights, attractions, shows, and (of course) casinos. Whenever you’re planning to visit Sin City, you will find plenty to keep you occupied, from poker rooms to white knuckle rides.
